Aethos Ericeira – Encarnação – The MICHELIN Guide

Like so many Portuguese hotels, Aethos Ericeira seems almost too fancy to be true. Its cliff-top location, in the middle of a nature reserve overlooking the Atlantic and the legendary surf beaches of Ericeira, offers spectacular views and splendid seclusion. And the hotel itself is eminently worthy of its setting; the design, by Spanish studio Astet and Portuguese architect Luís Pedra Silva, is impressively elegant and perfectly suited to the surroundings. Meanwhile, the luxury on offer is further proof that forward-looking design is perfectly compatible with high-end hospitality.

With 50 rooms and suites, it’s not quite a resort, but it certainly is a resort in substance; most rooms and all suites have private gardens or terraces, and living areas and bathrooms are spacious and well equipped. The focus is on health and wellness, which includes a pool, gym and dedicated surf concierge; a hammam-focused spa opens in fall 2022. Meanwhile, the restaurant, Onda, serves an elevated version of the Silver Coast seafood that was the origin of the village’s existence of fishermen from Ericeira.
