After last year’s recreational lake trout harvest exceeded limits, the Michigan Natural Resources Commission implemented daily boundary changes in parts of Lake Huron.

A press release from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources said that effective May 13, the daily limit for lake trout and splake is two fish in any combination.

This change affects only the MH-1 management unit, which includes the main ports of DeTour, Cedarville, St. Ignace, Mackinaw City, Cheboygan and Rogers City.

The NRC has not made any additional changes that affect the lake trout season, which runs until September 30. The online version of the 2022 Michigan Fishing Guide has been updated to include the changes and they are also listed on the DNR Fishing Regulation Hotline. at 888-367-7060.
