Safeguarding and developing Fiji’s natural resources is among the Liberal Social Democratic Party’s priorities ahead of the 2022 general election.

SODELPA candidate Ro Kiniviliame Kiliraki reiterated this during a recent campaign.

He pointed out that during the 2014 campaign period he had advocated for indigenous Fijians to be aware of their rights and responsibilities and to ensure that they obtain income from the lands and fishing grounds they possess.

“We need to be awake and look at some of the laws that are in place that relate to the protection of resources owned by indigenous Fijians because our natural resources, our fishing grounds, the language we speak and make sure we protect what we have.”

Kiliraki adds that SODELPA will ensure that the landowners are compensated accordingly and that the mahogany stations are returned to the landowners.

At the campaign meeting at Delaidogo in Wainibuku, a resident asked the former MP about the immediate changes SODELPA will bring if they are elected to government.

“First, we will have to make sure that in the changes that we plan to put in place, people are consulted and we also consider changing some laws in place.

Over the next three weeks, political parties will continue to travel to densely populated areas of Fiji in an attempt to capture the attention of eligible voters with the aim of persuading them as to why they should vote for them or for the party they represent.
